Question Summary:

What dimensions do I need when ordering heat shrink tubing?

Is there a material that is clear that operates up to 500°F?

When is ETFE used?

Which fluoroplastic material is the clearest?

Whichchemicals affect fluoroplastic tubing?

What lengths is the tubing supplied in?

What are your billing terms?

1. What dimensions do I need when ordering heat shrink tubing?

You need the expanded dimension of the heat shrink and the recovered dimension. The expanded dimension is what the tubing measures when it is in its expanded state, the recovered dimension is what the tubing measures when it is heated and recovered on the rod.

If you do not know these dimensions, we will need to know what the outside diameter is of the object you are putting the heat shrink over. You also need to know whether you want the heat shrink supplied in coils or straight lengths.  Back to Top

2. Is there a material that is clear that operates up to 500°F?

Yes, PFA  Back to Top

 3. When is ETFE used?

When added strength is needed.  Back to Top

 4. Which fluoroplastic material is the clearest?

FEP  Back to Top

 5. Which chemicals affect fluoroplastic tubing?

Within normal use temperatures, fluoroplastics are attacked by so few chemicals that it is easier to describe the exceptions rather than list the chemicals with which TEXfluor® is compatible. TEXfluor® should not be used with the following:

a.

Alkali metals such as elemental sodium, potassium, lithium, etc. The alkali metals remove fluorine from the polymer molecule.

b.

Extremely potent oxidizers, fluorine (F2) and related compounds (e.g., chlorine trifluoride, CIF3). These can be handled by fluoroplastics, but only with great care, as fluorine is absorbed into the resins, and the mixture becomes sensitive to a source of ignition such as impact.

c.

80% NaOH (Sodium Hydroxide) or KOH (Potassium Hydroxide), metal hydrides such as borances (e.g., B2H6), aluminum chloride, ammonia (NH3), certain amines (R-NH2) and imines (R=NH) and 70% nitric acid at temperatures near the suggested service limit.  Back to Top

 6. What lengths is the tubing supplied in?

Smooth bore tubing is supplied in random lengths. Usually the minimum length is 25 feet. Random means that the coil size could vary anywhere from 25 feet to 250 feet or the longest possible length available. Specific lengths are available at an additional charge.

Heat shrink is usually supplied in 2 ft, 4 ft and coils.

Convoluted tubing is available in random length coils or by the piece

Corrugated tubing is available in bulk lengths (maximum 12 feet) or by the piece.
